Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What should I bring on the kayak tour?
Wear comfortable clothing (shorts), t-shirt, and sandals or watershoes. We offer water, but if you're welcome to bring your own water bottle. We offer waterproof phone cases, but some people have waterproof cases on their phones. If it's a little colder, wear a lightweight jacket that repels water instead of a cotton sweatshirt or hoodie. It's also a good idea to bring a change of clothes and a towel - just in case.
What equipment is provided?
We do not nickel and dime you for amenities. Aquabeats will provide everything you need for the kayak tour (kayaks, lifejackets, paddles) and everything else that will make the tour more convenient (bottle of water, bug spray, JBL speaker, dry bag, waterproof phone case). You only need to be dressed in lightweight, quick drying clothing and be prepared to get your feet wet.
Do I need prior kayaking experience?
No prior experience is necessary on our tours and our guides will provide instruction and support throughout the tour. If you have never been kayaking and/or you don't have great balance or coordination we strongly recommend avoiding our Sunday tours until after Labor Day weekend.
How long do the tours last?
From check-in time to the time you drive away, the kayak experience is a little more than 2 hours. After checking in and some brief instructions we will be on the water for about 90 minutes. We will paddle west, along the shoreline of Lake Lewsiville, and we'll paddle back from the same direction.
Is it easy to get in and out of the kayaks?
The kayaks are lightweight (which is great for transporting them), but they can challenging to get into. Our guides will assist every participant into their personal kayak - even experienced kayakers. Many people can exit the kayak on their own. But, our guides assist everyone they can until everyone is safely onshore.
What is the minimum age for participants?
The minimum age for participants is 13 years old. This is the law, not our own requirement. We do not have any tandem or “double” kayaks.
Are we able to bring alcohol in the kayaks?
Please wait until after the tour if you want to enjoy a few drinks.
MEETING POINT
Where is Aquabeats located and how will we find you?
Aquabeats Kayaking Tours are located at Copperas Branch Park in Highland Village, TX. When you arrive at the park, you will see a white cargo trailer parked near the lake. You might see our kayaks lined up on the grass.
Is there parking fee at Copperas Branch Park?
The parking fee at Copperas Branch park (normally $15) is waived when you have purchased an Aquabeats Kayaking Tour.
PRICING
Are there fees added to the advertised, base price? Yes. Our software requires us to disclose some of the taxes and fees that are paid. On a $65 ticket price, the fees will be roughly $15 per ticket and your complete price is ~$80. We also pay a portion of our ticket price to the City of Highland Village and we waive the $15 parking cost at Copperas Branch Park (these are included in the $65 price) and are not itemized.
CANCELLATION AND WEATHER-RELATED EVENTS
How does Aquabeats monitor and handle weather interruptions?
Tours will be cancelled as soon as we know that the weather will interfere with a safe kayaking experience. Sometimes this is morning of the tour, but most likely will be very close to the time the tour is scheduled. If we need to cancel, then we will send a text to everyone and ask them to reschedule their tour.
What if the weather will improve if we just "wait" out a small storm?
The weather can change quickly and we will do our best to make the right decision - and you may disagree with it. However, keep in mind that it's important for the Sunset Tour to start on-time to give our guests a similar experience - every night.
May I cancel my own tour if I’m expecting the weather to be a concern?
Our kayaking guides will determine whether a tour is cancelled due to weather. Cancellations prior to the weather event will be treated like a standard cancellation. Guests who cancel their tour with less than 48 hours before the start time will not receive a refund unless they purchased Cancellation Protection.
May I bring my own Oru Kayak?
No. Oru Kayak owners sometimes believe that it is more convenient for Aquabeats if they bring their own kayak - and that Aquabeats can offer a discount for this. However, we have discovered the opposite is true. It requires more effort from the guest (to arrive earlier) and the guide, who then must add LED lights to your kayak.
Is there a weight limit for participants?
Yes. It is extremely important for our guests to be in a kayak that can safely handle their weight. It is dangerous to overload a kayak and even more dangerous at night. We allow guests who weigh up to 225lbs to use our standard kayaks. We also have some smaller kayaks for guests who are under 180lbs. We kindly request that guests who weigh under 180lbs book the smaller kayaks. If you have any concerns, please email support@aqua-beats.com with any questions.
CANCELLATION POLICY QUESTIONS
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy allows for a full refund if you cancel at least 48 hours before the scheduled tour. You must email support@aqua-beats.com to cancel. Cancellations made for any reason with less than 48 hours of the tour start time will not be refunded unless Cancellation Protection was purchased.
What is Cancel Protection?
Cancel Protection (purchased for each ticket) will give you the ability to cancel your tour(s) at any time prior to the tour start time.
This is especially useful if you become sick, have unexpected travel, or any other reason.
May I reschedule if I purchased Cancel Protection?
For the sake of convenience, we can reschedule your tour instead of cancelling. The rescheduled tour will not have any Cancel Protection.
Will Cancel Protection enable me to receive a full refund if I forget to show up to the tour?
Customers who simply do not cancel or reschedule prior to the tour will not receive any refund.
